I went to Tiao Donghu in Wuhan over the weekend. This was the first year the event started charging admission — a large music and beer party. The last time I was there was back when I was studying in Wuhan, when Wang Pengxiang and I wandered around together. I really like the IPA of the same name, Tiao Donghu — it has just the right bitterness; one small bottle is enough to get a pleasant buzz.
Despite the new ticket price, the lineup was only so-so. I recognized two of the bands — Tiger Spring (虎啸春) and Happy Wheel — having seen them play before at music festivals and showcase gigs in Wuhan.
Liyu and his friends came down from Shenzhen. I don’t know whether the event lived up to their expectations; like me, they were probably clinging to a memory from the past, like marking the boat where the sword fell.
We bought three-day early-bird passes, but Shuo and I only went on one day. East Lake and Luma Road are terribly congested. After getting off, we walked to the venue — it was far and exhausting.
At the South Lake No.18 Pub market booth beside the main stage, we watched the Wuhan Three Towns match over drinks. The bad luck came on the way home — Davidson, a former Three Towns striker, equalized, costing them the chance to climb out of the relegation zone.
